The trademark of the band KISS is their face paint (and Gene Simmons, an abnormally long tongue that he made a point of showing off every chance he got). But in 1973, during the photo shoot for their debut album, Joel Brodsky, the photographer responsible, is said to have thought they were meant to be clowns and actually suggested some balloons in the background.
